On Wednesday, Tesla announced that it had successfully installed the very first batch of solar roof tiles. Interestingly, the initial users happened to be Tesla employees themselves. This move was strategic, as it allowed Tesla staff to gain firsthand experience with the installation process and customer service challenges before rolling out the product to the public.
Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, shared his thoughts on the new product, stating, "I personally have solar tiles installed on my home, and so does our Chief Technology Officer, JB Straubel. Keep in mind, this is just the beginning. As we continue to refine the technology, I am confident that these solar tiles will only improve."
Musk further mentioned back in October that the cost of these solar roofs would be surprisingly competitive compared to traditional roofing options. What sets them apart from standard roofing materials is their ability to seamlessly blend in while housing advanced solar cells beneath their surface. Over time, the energy savings from using these tiles could offset their initial investment, making them a smart financial decision for homeowners.
Since May, Tesla has been accepting online orders for these solar roof tiles. Enthusiastic customers are encouraged to place their orders now.
