Pressure serves as a critical parameter for assessing the human cardiovascular system, holding significant importance in disease diagnosis, treatment processes, and prognostic evaluations. Currently, most blood pressure measurements available on the market rely on the automatic oscillometric method, which involves cuff inflation and deflation. While effective, this approach only captures blood pressure values at specific moments, making real-time monitoring challenging. Today, let’s delve deeper into this topic with insights from our medical electronics expert.
Dalian United Holdings recently announced that its affiliate has introduced Betterlife's袖less blood pressure monitoring solution, which simultaneously detects and analyzes electrocardiogram (ECG) and volumetric pulse wave signals. This innovative solution enables synchronous collection and real-time analysis of both ECG and volumetric pulse wave signals, extracting crucial physiological indicators such as blood pressure, heart rate, and ECG. These collected physiological metrics, along with ECG and pulse wave signals, can be transmitted via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or Wi-Fi.
Blood pressure remains a vital indicator of cardiovascular health. It plays a pivotal role in diagnosing diseases, guiding treatment plans, and predicting outcomes. However, the prevalent oscillometric method often provides only instantaneous readings, limiting its ability for continuous monitoring. Furthermore, factors like emotional stress, physical exertion, and anxiety can influence these readings. Continuous blood pressure monitoring offers a proactive way to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular incidents, providing clinicians with more robust data for diagnosis and post-treatment follow-ups. This capability holds particular significance in scenarios such as intensive care units where tracking trends in blood pressure is essential.

At present, non-invasive continuous blood pressure measurement methods demand precise experimental conditions. By fusing ECG and photoplethysmography (PPG) signals, we can separate the ECG from the PPG, ensuring synchronization between both signals. Advanced algorithms, including median filtering to remove high-frequency noise and wavelet transform for baseline drift correction, help eliminate interference caused by body movements, breathing, and other factors. A differential threshold method is used to extract key features from the ECG and the envelope of the PPG signal, calculating pulse transit time (PTT). Leveraging research on the correlation between blood pressure and PTT, a blood pressure model is derived.
