Nokia completes layoffs in Saipan and MeeGo involving 1400 people

According to the ITProPortal website, Nokia announced today that it has completed the layoff consultations between Finland’s MeeGo and Saipan, and the number of layoffs reached 1,400. Nokia said that the company has completed the work of negotiations on layoffs. This layoff involves two software development departments, MeeGo and Saipan, and some mobile equipment departments. At the same time, the company stated that negotiations on layoffs of other departments are still in progress.

Nokia had previously announced plans to gradually lay off employees in multiple steps, and existing employees can continue to work until the fall of 2011. The Finnish company’s labor force will be reduced by at least 1400 people.

Nokia is now at a crucial moment in its life and death, so the decision to lay off employees is crucial. The company currently faces competition from RIM, Apple and Google Android devices. As the company's share of the mobile market continues to decline, Nokia has to adopt promotions and layoffs to maintain the company's development and health.

Nokia also announced that they have reached an agreement with Accenture to outsource the company’s Saipan software development department and 2,400 engineers to the global management consulting company.
