Robot technology successfully used in steel frame joint processing

This is the first time that China has applied robotics technology to the processing of steel frame joints.

The space reticulated shell structure is a building structure that connects the space bar system through a plurality of nodes, and is a main realization form of a large stadium roof and various types of decorative buildings that require space and surface modeling. In the past, the spatial reticulated structural joints usually used steel pipe joint welding or spherical joint mechanical connection. However, the joints of steel pipes are not only difficult to manufacture and install, but also may affect the bearing capacity of the structure; while the spherical nodes are simple to make, the large volume often affects the aesthetic appearance of the building space surface.

In recent years, in order to meet the requirements of modern space reticulum structural mechanics, aesthetics and function, a class of multi-bar reciprocal reticulated shell nodes has emerged. The use of this new technical method has the advantages that the shape can be changed with the overall curved surface of the building, and it is easy to be connected with various types of shaped cross-section members, and can construct various novel and beautiful spatial curved architectural shapes. To this end, Jiangyin Narge Robotics Co., Ltd. and Tianjin University have cooperated with industry, university and research institutes to accelerate the research and development of “multi-bar reciprocating petal reticulated shell processing robot complete sets of equipment and demonstration projects” with independent intellectual property rights. After years of research, the research team has mastered the key manufacturing technology of the digital manufacturing of the shell-shaped multi-petal node "manufacturing - group mold - casting - processing", and developed a node unit system with a 5 degree of freedom hybrid robot as the core. The complete set of equipment for mold, integral assembly, face milling and drilling, with network communication function, can realize digital processing without graphics.

According to Gong Yuan, chairman and general manager of Narge Robotics Co., Ltd., this time for the first time, the robot technology was applied to the “Sunshine Valley” demonstration project for the processing of steel structure grid joints. The technology is difficult and the task time is tight. In the Expo Axis, the six giant "drums" of the "Sunshine Valley" are each about 40 meters high and the maximum diameter of the opening is 96 meters. Among them, its main body is made up of ultra-high precision 11060 nodes and more than 31,000 pipe fittings, each of which has a robot to complete. After the project is completed, it will be accepted by the expert group at one time. At present, the company is accelerating the demonstration application of this technology in steel structure manufacturing enterprises and national major infrastructure construction.
