Global WiMAX users are expected to continue to rise

Beijing, August 18 (Jiang Junmu) WiMAX Forum announced that the number of WiMAX users worldwide has exceeded the 20 million mark. According to the InfoneTIcs Research survey, as of the end of the second quarter of 2011, a total of 20 million users worldwide have adopted WiMAX technology.

"In the first half of 2011, the investment in WiMAX access network equipment exceeded US $ 500 million. WiMAX technology continues to attract operators' investment and quickly bring broadband networks to users." Ron Resnick, President and Chairman of WiMAX Forum Said.

"According to the InfoneTIcs Research survey, the total number of WiMAX users in the world reached 20 million in mid-2011, and we are moving towards our expected number of users by the end of the year reaching 25 million." InfoneTIcs Research's WiMAX, microwave and mobile terminal guidance analysts Richard Webb said, "As WiMAX operators build user bases, the number of users in all regions continues to grow, but we find that the United States, India, Asia, and Latin America are particularly significant. With operators Marketing level and the development of the terminal ecosystem, we expect WiMAX subscribers to exceed 100 million by 2015. "

In the first half of 2011, the number of UQ CommunicaTIons users in Japan doubled, reaching 1 million in June. In the Asia-Pacific region, Malaysia ’s new WiMAX operator YTL (the WiMAX service launched in November 2010) netted 300,000 subscribers by June. At the July meeting, UQ Communications first publicly tested WiMAX 2, and UQ and YTL signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a pan-Asian WiMAX hot zone.

On the other side of the world, Clearwire and its wholesale partners continue to grow their user base. Clearwire just announced that the total number of users in the second quarter of 2011 was 7.65 million, an increase of 365% year-on-year. Clearwire also raised its guidelines again, and it is expected that the number of users will reach 10 million by the end of 2011. Jamaican operator Digicel used its WiMAX network to occupy 25% of the local market in less than a year; Mexican operator AXTEL's WiMAX subscribers increased by more than 80% to more than 332,000. In Europe, the number of users of Irish operator Imag! Ne, Belgian operator Max Telecom and Lithuanian operator LRTC have all increased.

As the number of users continued to increase in 2011, operators continued to invest in new networks and network expansion. According to Infonetics Research, in the first quarter of 2011, global sales of WiMAX equipment reached US $ 502.1 million, a 49% increase from the first quarter of 2010. In 2011, the market size of WiMAX equipment alone is expected to reach 2 billion US dollars. Investment in WiMAX technology is still rising. In the first half of 2011, more than 30 WiMAX networks were launched or expanded.
