University of Toronto graduate student launches "micro-bulb" innovation

The same brightness, micro bulbs use 12 watts, traditional bulbs use 100 watts; spend 400 yuan to buy 30 traditional bulbs, the service life is equivalent to just 50 yuan to buy a micro bulb to use; and the micro bulb is less Like a traditional light bulb, it won't be hot if it is used for a long time.

The micro-bulb was developed by three graduates of Applied Science and Mechanical Engineering, Christian Yan, Tom Rodinger, and Gimmy Chu. They designed and used many small light-emitting diodes (LEDs) attached to a foldable circuit board. In the above, as long as the surface circuit board is folded and connected to the power supply, it can be used as an illuminant, and it is environmentally friendly if it is not used for a long time.

In fact, the reason why the three people got together was because Tom Rodinger, after completing his Ph.D., joined the third-year students Christian Yan and Gimmy Chu who were studying power and computer engineering to participate in the “Blue Sky Solar Competition” at that time. To develop a vehicle with solar installations.

Christian Yan, one of the inventors, said that when it was originally developed, it only wanted to save money, innovate, and make something different. The light-emitting diode has been around for a long time, but it is the first time it is applied to a light bulb.

The reason for this innovative invention is mainly to participate in online fundraising activities. I hope to raise the target of 20,000 yuan before March 8, but I have not expected to attract about 3,000 investors. The sponsorship amount has reached 140,000 yuan.

In the short term, Christian Yan and Tom Rodinger will continue to find the right products in Asia; Gimmy Chu is currently in California, responsible for marketing plans for micro-bulbs.

At present, the three-person team is looking for a suitable wholesaler for the micro-light bulbs in order to open the door to sales, and the current manufacturers interested in micro-light bulbs, including from Mexico, Brazil, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Finland, at the same time, They have intended to apply for a patent for the micro bulb.
