Hong Kong 4G converged dual-mode terminal will be available in the second half of the year

Hong Kong 4G converged dual-mode terminal will be available in the second half of the year Ma Zibin, a director and deputy president of China Mobile Hong Kong, revealed in an interview with other media that after April 24, 2012, China Mobile’s Hong Kong 4G service was formally listed, from January to April this year, 4G terminals became more mature and began to enter the market. Huawei, LG, Sony, Samsung, Blackberry, HTC and other 8 mobile phones are also listed. He expects that more LTE handsets, including FDD/TDD dual-mode handsets, will be available in the second half of the year. More LTE tablet PCs and FDD/TDD dual-mode data terminals will also be available in the second half of the year.

"Future FDD/TDD dual-mode terminals will support 5-mode and 10-frequency terminals and cover different formats such as TDD, FDD, WCDMA, TDS, GSM, etc. These terminals will be launched in the market this year."

In January 2009, China Mobile Hong Kong Corporation voted for 30 MHz (pairs of 2555-2570 MHz and 2675-2690 MHz) radio spectrum for the development of LTE FDD networks. In March 2013, the company reinvested 10 MHz (pairs of 2530-2535 MHz and 2650-2655 MHz) radio spectrum to expand the LTE FDD network.

China Mobile Hong Kong 4G service was officially listed on April 25, 2012, and it initiated the "China-Hong Kong Data Sharing" plan package.

While advancing the construction of the LTE FDD network, China Mobile Hong Kong has once again started to promote the commercial use of TD-LTE networks.

"In February 2012, China Mobile Hong Kong successfully acquired a 30-MHz TD-LTE license for the 2.3GHz spectrum. In December of the same year, we launched the world's first commercial TD/FDD converged network, successfully demonstrating TD-LTE and LTE FDD. Slots were switched, and 4G roaming video calls between Hong Kong and Shenzhen were realized,” said Ma Zibin.

The reporter learned that the TD/FDD converged networks share the same LTE core network, and LTE network traffic is implemented using CSFB to 2G networks. Among them, 2G core network, FDD/TDD LTE core network, IPRAN, 2G base station, 2G/FDD base station all use Ericsson's equipment, and TDD base station is jointly undertaken by Ericsson and ZTE.

In terms of networking strategy, China Mobile Hong Kong uses TD-LTE2300 and LTE FDD2600 to provide high-speed data service capacity and LTE FDD 1800 to enhance LTE network coverage to compensate for the lack of coverage of 2300MHz/2600MHz. At the same time, WCDMA 2100 is used to provide 3G services, LTE data security network and voice services, while GSM 1800 provides basic voice and low-speed EDGE data services to meet the needs of specific local customers and some visiting customers.

Talking about the goals of FDD and TDD LTE converged networking, Ma Zibin said that from a customer perspective, converged networks can enable customers to enjoy a seamless and smooth network experience no matter what 4G LTE network they are in, effectively enhancing customer experience. Customers only need to use a terminal that supports TD-LTE and LTE FDD, and they can use both TD-LTE and LTE FDD networks. Customers do not need to consider whether the network is TDD or FDD.

"From the operator level, the converged network has greatly increased the overall network capacity and improved the quality of service. The 4G LTE network can more fully realize interoperability and seamless handover between TD-LTE and LTE FDD, and can effectively achieve load sharing. ”

It is understood that the converged network adopts the method of "TDD greater than 3D/2G greater than FDD" at the network level configuration. That is, the user uses the LTE dual-band terminal to send level information to the terminal through the cell system information. When the user has TD-LTE coverage, it will preferentially access the TD-LTE network; if the TD-LTE signal weakens, the terminal will reselect or switch to the terminal. Other TD-LTE cells or LTE FDD cells; when there is no LTE coverage, the terminal will reselect or switch to WCDMA/GSM.

Currently, in the converged network, the downlink and uplink speeds of the LTE FDD network can reach 100Mbps and 35Mbps, and the downlink and uplink speeds of the TD-LTE network can reach 80Mbps and 10Mbps.
