Y1 capacitors offer double or reinforced insulation and are rated for voltages above 250 V, while Y2 and Y3 capacitors provide basic or additional insulation and are suitable for lower voltage ranges.
Understanding the safety levels of capacitors is crucial for proper application. According to IEC standards, X capacitors are classified as X1, X2, and X3 based on their voltage ratings. Similarly, Y capacitors are divided into Y1, Y2, Y3, and Y4, each with different insulation requirements and voltage capabilities.
It's important to note that DC capacitors should never be used as cross-line capacitors, as they may not meet the necessary safety standards for high-voltage applications.
