Qube launches the same name of the smart networked light bulb design is simple and low price

The startup company Qube has launched a smart networked light bulb of the same name. Compared with the same type of products on the market, it has a small advantage in terms of price and simplicity.

According to reports, the Qube smart light bulb can display 16 million colors, the brightness reaches 800 lumens, equivalent to a 60W bulb, and can be used directly on the existing E26/E27 screw. Unlike similar products such as Philips Hue, Qute works without the need to control the hub. Each Qube can connect to Wi-Fi independently and communicate directly with the router in the user's home. At the same time, the Qube's built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas also enable communication and motion synchronization between the bulbs.

Qube's companion application supports control platforms such as IFTTT, so in theory, Qube can work with other appliances and applications. For example, the weather app can trigger a change in lighting based on a weather forecast.

Qube is currently conducting crowdfunding at Indiegogo, starting at $16 (about RMB 102) and is expected to ship in April next year.

If Qube is successful, it will cost about $19 – much cheaper than multicolor bulbs from companies like Philips and Osram, which sell for about $59.99.

Qube said that the company intends to lower profit margins, hoping to better penetrate the market.

Philips Hue is probably the most famous smart connected light bulb on the market today, and OSRAM and General Electric have introduced similar products. The industry has also seen some new faces this year, including LED bulb manufacturer Cree, which began producing smart connected light bulbs in January this year.

The startup Astro also launched a smart light bulb called Twist in June this year. The company has incorporated audio playback capabilities that can be used with the Apple AirPlay system in its products, hoping to stand out from the crowd.

Smart bulb brands such as Cree, Osram and Philips are compatible with smart home platforms such as Wink Hub, which also supports a variety of networking devices such as Nest thermostats and digital door locks.

But Qube said that in order to simplify the operation process, the company's light bulbs do not support these smart home platforms. They said: "In contrast to other light bulbs that require a core hub platform to function properly, each Qube has its own Wi-Fi connection, so it can directly exchange data with the router."

The Qube bulbs have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas that can transfer data to each other for work together.

But Qube also said that the mobile applications used with the company's light bulbs also support platforms such as IFTTT, so in theory, the brightness of the bulb can be correlated with other household appliances or applications. For example, the weather app allows the indoor light bulb to adjust the brightness according to the weather forecast.

Qube is a spin-off business of Singapore-based startup Innova Technology. The team consists of nine people who have worked together for two years.

Innova Technology is best known for its Protag Duet anti-theft product, which can be used with smartphones to signal the phone when it leaves a certain range, alerting the user that the phone may be stolen.
