NXP launches next-generation driver chip with GreenChip technology

NXP Semiconductor NV has announced the launch of the new generation of non-dimmable CFL driver chip UBA2211 with GreenChip technology for the 230V and 110V fluorescent lamps market. The UBA2211 is a fully integrated fluorescent lamp driver that supports controlled current preheating for compact fluorescent lamp design, efficient power conversion, and extended CFL life to 12,000 - 15,000 hours. In addition, NXP also announced the first UBA2024B switch-integrated CFL driver chip, also tailored to the 110V fluorescent market, using GreenChip technology.

Jacques le Berre, director of marketing and business development for NXP Semiconductors Lighting Solutions, said: "As global incandescent lamps gradually withdraw from the market and the EU's recent ban on 75W high-power incandescent lamps comes into effect, the advantages of fluorescent lamps in terms of cost and lighting will become more prominent. NXP's driver chips, such as the GreenChip UBA2211, have achieved new breakthroughs in quality, performance and functionality, enabling fluorescent lamp manufacturers to launch products that fully meet the requirements of home lighting. As the first semiconductor company to realize the significance of energy-saving lighting, NXP works with customers. Committed to promoting the development of the lighting industry as an extension of its high-performance mixed-signal development strategy. With the support of advanced GreenChip technology, fluorescent lighting products will be favored by more and more consumers around the world."

Create high quality non-dimmable CFL products

NXP's latest generation of CFL driver chips meet the most demanding specifications of high-quality, non-dimmable CFL products such as higher brightness, longer life, smaller form factor and faster lighting times. Helping the market for fluorescent products. The integrated chip solution can completely replace the traditional discrete device ballast solution, helping manufacturers to meet more stringent market demands, providing more humanized CFL products for the market, ultimately achieving higher brightness and faster Preheat, longer life, and lower cost of ownership.

The UBA2211 series high voltage monolithic integrated circuit is a half-bridge CFL driver chip. This series offers a simple lighting load control method for a wide range of fluorescent tubes and mains voltages. The UBA2211 integrates an adjustable current control preheat mode that allows self-setting of the warm-up time to help extend the life of the fluorescent lamp. Due to its very small form factor, the UBA2211 significantly reduces the manufacturer's bill of materials (BOM), enabling large-scale production of high-quality fluorescent lamps.

The GreenChip UBA2211 Series includes:

UBA2211A: 230V fluorescent lamp drive, maximum power 11W

UBA2211B: 230V fluorescent lamp drive, maximum power 18W

UBA2211C: 230V fluorescent lamp drive, maximum power 23W

GreenChip technical features

GreenChip is the core technology for NXP to create low-cost, energy-efficient power management and lighting chips. The GreenChip system products are suitable for any device that uses AC power and sockets in the wall, bringing many benefits to energy-efficient product design, including minimum switching loss and low power standby. GreenChip technology relies on NXP's EZ-HV process to enable cost-effective, high-voltage integrated chips. This process successfully integrates a high voltage circuit that can handle the rectified AC line voltage and a low voltage CMOS logic circuit with on-chip intelligence into the GreenChip chip.

New 110V fluorescent lamp drive solution

NXP also introduced the first switch-integrated CFL driver chip GreenChip UBA2024B tailored for 110V fluorescent lamps. This is the sixth chip of NXP's UBA2024 series for all CFL driver markets. The UBA2024B is not only compatible with the UBA2024 series. Pin-compatible, it also has the advantages of space saving, improved efficiency and extended lamp life.

Key features of CFL lighting based on switch-integrated CFL driver chips include:

Quick start to achieve instant lighting

Energy efficient, average energy efficiency increased by 5%

The preheating function protects the lamp tube and extends its service life; standard lamps with discrete components have an average service life of 4,000 – 6,000 hours, while lamps with NXP IC drives can reach up to 12,000 – 15,000 hours.

NXP provides professional team and development tool support for its semiconductor lighting solutions. Design engineers can easily upgrade their semiconductor lighting solutions by seamlessly integrating CFL drivers in the size of incandescent lamps.
