Osram Optoelectronics and Jintai Electronics’ lawsuit victory

On October 31, 2007, in the lawsuit with Osram Optoelectronics, China's Taiwan LED manufacturer Kinbright lost the case. The court confirmed that this station infringed on three basic patents and utility model patents of OSRAM Optoelectronics and postponed the ruling on a patented LED packaging technology. Osram said that the Düsseldorf District Court supported almost all of its claims. According to the ruling, many of the LED products of this station will not be sold in Germany, and the inventory of these products in Germany must also be destroyed. No suspense is that this Taiwan refused to accept the ruling and filed an appeal.

OSRAM Optoelectronics sees this ruling as another reinforcement of the company's patent strategy. The patents cost a lot of time and money, which is the crystallization of the company and employees. OSRAM will pursue any infringement of any intellectual property rights. In addition, Osram recently filed a similar infringement lawsuit against Jintai Electronics in China.

The patents and utility models involved in the German lawsuit are mainly related to the production of white LEDs (the conversion of blue light into white light by phosphors). As a pioneer of innovation, Osram was the first company to introduce white light single-chip LEDs in the late 1990s. Typical applications for white LEDs include display backlighting, automotive interior and exterior lighting, and more.
