Linear Technology introduces the LT3590, a 48V step-down DC/DC converter that acts as a constant current LED driver. An internal 55V, 80mA switch and Schottky diode enable the LT3590 to drive up to 10 50mA series in series with a 48V input. Ideal for industrial and LED signage applications. The LED series connection achieves the same and up to 50mA LED current, resulting in consistent brightness and eliminating the need for ballast resistors. Dimming is adjustable through the CTRL pin to achieve a dimming ratio of up to 200:1. Its 850kHz switching frequency allows the use of tiny inductors and ceramic capacitors while achieving efficiencies as high as 91%. Available in a 2mm x 2mm DFN or SC-70 package, the LT3590 is a very compact solution for driving high current LEDs.
The LT3590 features a fixed frequency current mode architecture that operates stably over a wide range of input and output voltages. The 200mV feedback voltage has ±5% accuracy, ensuring consistent LED brightness.
The LT3590 is available from stock in a 2mm x 2mm DFN-6 or 8-lead SC-70 package. Available in 1,000-piece quantities, both versions start at $1.40.
