Catalyst's 7W buck LED driver in the SOT-23 package

Topic: Catalyst Semiconductor, Inc., a provider of technology-based analog, mixed-signal devices and non-volatile memory, has announced the innovative buck converter for its SOT-23 package. Suitable for driving LEDs with high brightness and output current up to 350mA, the conversion efficiency is up to 94%.

The CAT4201 allows an external RSET control resistor to regulate LED currents up to 350mA at up to 24V supply, providing better control of the inductor and no special thermal design. It uses a patent-pending new switch control algorithm that easily controls the average LED current with only one external resistor. This greatly reduces the internal power dissipation of the CAT4201, allowing it to be packaged in a 5-pin TSOT23 package without the need for a dedicated heat sink.
