Thousands of people in the UK complain that energy-saving light bulbs cause seizures

According to the British "Daily Mail" news, British lawmakers and charities have recently received complaints that many people with epilepsy have dizziness and other symptoms of early sudden onset in the use of energy-saving light bulbs.

Energy-saving bulbs have a long service life and can help cut carbon dioxide emissions. In March of this year, the British government reached an agreement with the EU countries to phase out incandescent lamps from 2009 and enforce energy-saving lamps in British homes. But statistics show that in recent months, thousands of people have complained that energy-saving light bulbs may lead to seizures in patients.

Conservative MP Jeffrey Cox said that he has received about 20 complaints and said: If I receive 15 to 20 complaints, there will be hundreds or even thousands of people affected in the country.

About 500,000 people in the UK have epilepsy, and 23,000 of them will suddenly have a sudden flash of light. British Health Minister Ivan Lewis said that no assessment of the impact of energy-saving light bulbs on patients with epilepsy has been made. In accepting the parliamentary question, Lewis acknowledged that energy-saving lamps may also affect the health of 16,000 lupus patients in the UK.

It is unclear how energy-saving bulbs cause seizures in patients. Although the energy-saving lamp will also flash, its blinking frequency is not the same as the frequency of the light that usually causes epilepsy. There is speculation that this may be related to the lighting mechanism of energy-saving bulbs.

A spokesperson for the charity epilepsy action said they had launched an investigation after receiving several complaints.
